Stationary Engine magazine on Model making
Stationary Engine magazine on Model making
As the reader will soon find, the bulk of this Stationary Engine magazine 'articles reprint book is made up of articles written by Dick Mason.
Dick Mason's step-by-step series on making a Fairbanks-Morse model is an excellent guide to stationary engine model-making in general. Dick details his thought processes as well as his techniques, and includes his mistakes as well as his clever problem solving. All this makes for fascinating reading.
Sadly, Dick Mason died before the series had been completed in the magazine but he had already prepared the remaining three episodes, so it was agreed with his son that it would make a fitting tribute to the man by finishing the series. In turn, we hope this book will now be a lasting tribute to him. I personally only corresponded with Dick, but everyone I know who had met him made the point of saying what a real gentleman he was in the true sense of the word.
Dick also helped Dammis Boutkam of The Netherlands with the preparation of his article on making a Schoenner Atmospheric Gas Engine and his 'Model Making - getting started' feature offers a lot of useful advice on available kits and where to get
