By tube beyond Edgware by Tony Beard
Under proposals drawn up in the mid-1930s, the Northern Line would have needed a large new depot. To provide a suitable site for this, it was planned to extend the line three miles beyond Edgware to a new terminus near Bushey Heath, shown above. Just east of the new terminal station, construction of the new depot reached an advanced stage but, in the event, it was never to be used for its intended purpose.
Work also started on extending the line, only to be interrupted by the Second World War. After the war it was decided not to proceed with any further extensions of the Northern Line, and the works begun before the war were abandoned.
This book is a complete record of the planned extension and its failure to be realised.
