A Life on the Lines by R.H.N.Hardy A Railwayman’s Album
A glorious photographic record of Britain's railways towards the end of the Age of Steam, as seen through the eyes of legendary railwayman Richard Hardy. More than 150 images taken on Richard's Brownie box camera, and by other railway photographers, such as Dr lan Allen and Dick Riley, are accompanied by Richard's meticulously detailed captions and entertaining anecdotes that truly evoke the speed, heat and dust of the footplate.
R. H. N. HARDY (left and below right) worked on Britain's railways for over 40 years, from apprenticeship at Doncaster to Divisional Manager at Liverpool.
He is the author of Steam in the Blood (1971), Railways in the Blood (1985), and Beeching: Champion of the Railway? (1989), as well as numerous articles.
