More Southern Steam: South and West by Alan Wills, Anthony Fairclough....
For many years, following the electrification of the suburban services, Southern Region continued to run steam-hauled express trains from Waterloo. This is a photographic record of the wide variety of types which were at work in the 1950s and 1960s in the area from Waterloo to Weymouth, Salisbury and Portsmouth.
Not only are famous expresses, such as the 'Bournemouth Belle' and the
'Atlantic Coast Express' to be seen herein, but also included are the more humble, but no less interesting, cross-country and branch passenger trains, together with the vital freight and parcels traffic of the South and West.
